COTTAGE DECORATING IDEAS FOR THE SPRING | THE MILLIONAIRE’S DAUGHTER

Well it’s been a FREEZING cold winter, we will be gladly welcoming spring in the next couple of weeks, fingers crossed!

Here at The Millionaire’s Daughter, we have been going a little stir crazy with the long cold days spent indoors, you could even say we’ve got a dose of CABIN FEVER!

Speaking of cabin fever… let’s take our mind off the cold weather for a moment and imagine we’re at the cottage on a balmy summer weekend. Blue skies, sunshine, and a warm summer breeze. Can you picture it? So today let’s talk cabin decor.

We are planning ahead and bringing you guys some fabulous spring/summer furniture over the next month. Interested in consigning? Do you have a high-end patio set you have grown out of or thinking of replacing? We are accepting Summer Furniture Consignments until the end of April. For more information visit www.themillionairesdaughter.com/sell-your-furniture.

Here are a couple decorating ideas if you’re planning on updating your summer home over the next couple of months!

Patterns & Prints – Layering soft florals and patterned textiles on causal furniture makes for a cozy, cottage fresh atmosphere! Mixing vintage and contemporary patterns always adds interest to a space as well! There is nothing more shabby chic than a pastel patterned thrown draped over a floral upholstered ottoman. Adding fresh flowers in mismatched vases throughout your space is a great idea too!

Conversation Corner – Time at the cottage means time away from the TV. Well at least thats what it means in my family! Find a space in your cottage where you can create a separate, more intimate seating area for a quiet game of scrabble or an afternoon tea.

No-Fuss Furniture – We are big on no-fuss furniture, no need to sacrifice style either! Look for distressed wood surfaces that will stand the test of time. With kids and guests visiting over the summer you’re going to want to find that perfect coffee that won’t need coasters for their summer drinks! Scrapes, dings and scuffs only add to the character of the piece! Primitive, Canadiana, and rustic are word that will help narrow down the search.

Slipcover in Style – Along the same lines as no-fuss furnishings, slipcovered sofas are great for cottage decorating. Many new sofas are made in this slipcover style from affordable cotton or canvas material. You can easily slip off the sofas cover and toss into the wash. Not ready to part with your old sofa? There are great resources for covering old upholstery with a custom or store bought slipcover.

Painted Finishes – Painted furniture suits most cabins. As many of you know we sell a fabulous line of chalky paint at The Millionaire’s Daughter, Bluestone Cottage paints. Not only is paint a great solution for second-hand furniture but it’s also a great alternative to wood finishes because we all know some cottages are VERY pine! So grab a paint brush, slap on some paint and rough it up with sandpaper for a rustic-cabin finish.

Seaside Charm – Smack in middle of Southern Ontario there’s not much chance that you’ve got a coastal cottage you can escape to, most of our cottages are looking onto our beautiful Ontario lakes. But thats no reason to not include some nautical, seaside charm into your cabin decor. Bring the beach home by displaying found shells in clear glass containers. This container with beachwood is one of our favourite pieces at the moment Item #28427, $25.50.
